If you caught the last post, “A Tangible Plan,” you know we were eyeing the R.K. Nursing Home, which will be empty in 2027. A bunch of enthusiastic artists and supporters got together at The Arts House on June 30th to brainstorm turning part of the R.K. into an art space. After lots of brainstorming and chatting, we realized renovating the place would be way too pricey, and using it as-is just wouldn’t meet our community’s needs.
So, what’s next? Well, a lot of artists are still on the hunt for a new creative space—somewhere to create, perform, display, and teach. We might be working on Plan B (or C or D—who’s counting?), but one thing’s for sure: the creative juices are flowing! With the support of art lovers and patrons, we’re confident we can come up with something amazing.
We’ve gathered some great insights from the Antigonish Art Space survey and the Creative Community Symposium. Now, we’re crunching the numbers and ideas to better understand what the community needs and wants. Behind the scenes, we’re putting together a detailed plan with various options to explore. There’s a solution out there; we just need to get creative to find it. So, stay tuned—we’re on the lookout for that perfect creative plan!
Happy Creating,
Andy
